Terms of use

Tincan is a free service for private conversations between two people. These terms explain what you can expect from it and what we ask of you.

Using Tincan

By opening or joining a room you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

The service

Tincan lists rooms, introduces two browsers to each other and helps them find a direct connection. Calls, screens, messages, files and games then run directly between the two browsers. Tincan is free, comes without accounts, and may change, pause or stop at any time without notice.

Your conduct

You are responsible for how you use Tincan and for everything you send through it.

Because content travels directly between browsers, we can't see or moderate it. If someone misuses Tincan, leave the room. To report abuse of the service itself, open an issue on GitHub.

Rooms and the public list

Every open room appears in the list on the home page with its name, code and how many people are in it, and anyone can see that list. Don't put personal information in room names. Add a PIN if a room should only be joined by people you invite. Empty rooms close after 10 minutes.

Fair use of the servers

Please don't create rooms automatically, flood the signaling or STUN server, probe it for weaknesses, or try to get around the limits on rooms and PIN attempts. We may block addresses that do.

Your content

What you share stays yours. We never receive it, so we claim no rights to it. The other person in your room can of course keep anything you send them.

Source code

The code that runs Tincan is published on GitHub.

No warranty

Tincan is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We don't promise that it will always be available, that every pair of networks can connect, or that a transfer or call will complete.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of Tincan, including lost data, interrupted calls or anything another person sends you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and using Tincan after a change means you accept the new version. See also the privacy policy.
